Yet again we find ourselves at the end of another wonderful and incredibly busy school year here at Mulgrave. What a year it has been! Not one of us would have ever thought that Term 3 would have turned out the way it did and that so many of our end of year celebrations would take place online. Thank you to each and every one of you for dedicating so much time and effort to support your children as we navigated eLearning together. There were certainly challenges involved, but despite those, much to celebrate as well. It was undoubtedly a year of successes with events taking place such as the Terry Fox run, the Halloween sing-a-long and Winter concert to name just a few. We were fortunate to still be able to celebrate events such as the end of year certificate ceremony and the concert (sing-a-long) online thanks to the dedication of our staff who made these as meaningful as possible. As always though, these moments would not have been possible without the support of not only the staff, but also that of the parents and family members too, who volunteered their time and efforts. We are so fortunate to have a community of families at this school who never fail to get involved and lend support to the Early Years, making it feel more like a family than a school.
We want to thank our extremely dedicated staff whose passion and love for their profession shines through every day that they are taking care of your children. The support and love that they show to the students in their care is to be admired. Special mention needs to be made this year for the creative and imaginative ways that they delivered eLearning. We know that they spent many hours (and many retakes) making interactive videos to enhance the students’ learning.
As we close the chapter on one school year, we look forward with excitement to the next school year and what that holds in store for us. It is a big year for our preschool students; for our youngest who will be starting in Pre-K 3, it may be their first ever experience in a school setting; our Pre-K 3 students will be moving into Pre-K 4; for those who have finished in Pre-K 4, they will begin their next educational journey into Kindergarten; and our Kindergarten students will be moving on to be part of the Junior School. Regardless of where our students are in the education spectrum, we are thrilled to be supporting all of our Early Years learners from Pre-K 3 all the way to Kindergarten next year. Each and every one of them has grown and flourished this year. We are looking forward to continuing to ensure that we are properly supporting our students by tailoring a programme to match the social, emotional, and academic needs of all of our students.
With the 2019/2020 academic year coming to an end, it is the nature of the education system that we will be saying goodbye to a few staff and students at the end of the year. We wish Ms. Walker, Ms. Geist, Ms. Remtulla and Ms. Sydney all the best as they continue their teaching profession in new areas and thank them for their input in our EY team this past year.
Finally, some housekeeping items; class lists will be available to parents in the first week of July as well as the Early Years start-up package which will include the handbook, gradual entry schedule, and important information for families. At this stage, our traditional play date that has occurred before the start of school will not take place due to COVID, but we will certainly work on something to ensure that all families are welcomed into the new school year.
The first day back for all Pre-K 3, new Pre-K 4 and new Kindergarten students is Monday, 24 August. All returning Pre-K 4 and Kindergarten students will start school on Tuesday, 25 August. Our goal is for the Early Years students to be back in school full time in August so please check your emails closer to the start of school for any updates which we may receive from the BC Ministry.
We wish you all a restful and enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing you in the new school year.
