With the successful completion of the new Senior School, the Board of Governors approved plans for the West Wing and our MPower Campaign, which raised $12m. The West Wing opened its doors in December 2018 and is now home to our Middle School, Early Years Programme, and the Upper School Art and Design Studios.
Over the summer of 2019, we broke ground on our Athletics and Performing Arts Centre development. The Centre will house a double gym, viewing area, team rooms, multi-purpose spaces, dance studio, and choral rooms. Over the past several years, we have incorporated additional athletic co-curricular options to our Junior School students, and as they have taken advantage of them, we have grown the level of interest in team sports such as basketball, rugby, and soccer, so this update to our facilities is timely. As well, participation in our choir, band, dance, and drama programmes has steadily increased, and we want to be able to provide further offerings that will enrich our students’ experiences.
The Board has decided that the $18m Athletics and Performing Arts Centre project will be underwritten by long-term bank borrowing. The school is just about to finish paying off the bank loan for the original school building taken out in 2001; taking on a new loan for the Centre and paying it back at the same rate as the original loan will not require any adjustment to either fees or our current operating budget.
While we are not having a formal fundraising campaign for this project, we will be most grateful to any families who are able and willing to make donations to the Centre; we have a number of naming opportunities for those wishing to support this important initiative.
