G4-6 Summer Day Camps
Week 1
WEEK #1 JULY 9 - JULY 13
Zen Maker Camp: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) - Cyri Jones - FULL
From art, 3D design and 3D printing, to electronics and Python coding with Raspberry Pi, from Minecraft mods, augmented reality and robotics to an engineering project, your kids will be introduced or expand their existing skills in this important area. No experience necessary! It's a great way for your child to have fun while learning some really useful skills, helping prepare them for the future. Participants will build a programmable MP3+ player along with a robotic talking head that they can take home. Note: Different material will be covered in this Week 1 camp from Week 2 so it can optionally be taken in addition to Week 2 or taken on its own.

Banish Boring Words - Jessica Ferguson
This camp is focused on expanding vocabulary and writing with words that excite the senses and sparkle on the page! Be ready for lots of word exploration, including some etymology and investigation of foreign words that have been adopted into the English language. Be warned - your writing may improve beyond belief!

Let's Dance! - Jamie Caton
This camp is perfect for students wanting to try dance without committing to one style. We will explore a range of dance styles such as: Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, and Stage. Through dance, students will work on skills such as: coordination, rhythm, balance, stamina, memory and performance. Clothing that is comfortable is recommended (please no jeans). Students will dance in running shoes or barefoot. No dance shoes necessary. There will be a short showcase on the last day.

Fencing - Igor Gantsevich
Learn one of the most elegant, exhilarating and safest sports which teaches discipline, coordination and sportsmanship. This camp is taught by one of Canada’s most decorated fencers, Igor Gantsevich (National, North and Pan American Champion, Pan American Games and World Cup Medalist). All students enrolled in the camp will receive a certificate of completion signed by Canadian National Team Coach Victor Gantsevich and by Coach Igor Gantsevich. All necessary equipment will be provided for the camp. Please make sure your child is wearing comfortable athletic attire and clean athletic shoes (sandals, dress shoes, flip flops or crocs will not be permitted at camp).

Kitchen Chemistry - Jessi Jones & Jongsu Kim
The chemistry of food and cooking is in our everyday lives and this camp provides an exciting context for some exciting experiments. Each day of camp deals with a new aspect of the chemistry of food and cooking. No budding scientist (or cook) will want to miss this fun camp!

Nike Basketball Camp - Ryan Lenarduzzi
Join Nike Basketball Camps in West Vancouver! Hosted at Mulgrave School, campers train in an elite sports facility with Coach Ryan Lenarduzzi, head coach of Level 10 Basketball Academy to develop their individual skills, confidence, and team play while having fun. Focus areas for the week will include the development of fundamental skills (shooting, ball-handling, defense and passing), daily competitions (skills challenges, one on one and 3 on 3 tournaments) and full-court game play. All campers will receive a NIKE T-Shirt and will be eligible for great prizes!
Note: This camp requires enrolment and payment of $225 through the NIKE website. Please complete the Mulgrave registration and then enrol and pay through the NIKE site.

Sketching 'En Plein Air' - Jessica Ferguson
This is a camp for all art lovers and an opportunity to leave the four walls of the art studio behind and experience painting and drawing in the beautiful outdoors. This practice goes back for centuries, but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists, whose work students will be looking at and learning from. All materials and gorgeous views included. Please know that this camp may go off campus weather permitting.

Hiking & Survival Skills - Jessi Jones & James Gardiner
Having fun in the forest is all about understanding the environment. This afternoon camp is an active camp about knowing the forest and playing games that don't leave a trace once we're gone. Students will also learn about survival strategies and what to do if you get lost in the forest. Campers will need to wear walking shoes (no sandals) and clothes that can get dirty. We will go off campus every afternoon, so please have rain gear in case of a shower.

Zen Maker Camp – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) – Sampler Week 2 (different material from week 1. It can be taken independently of week 1 or in addition to it)
From art, 3D design and 3D printing, to electronics and Python coding with Raspberry Pi, from Minecraft mods, augmented reality and robotics to an engineering project, your kids will be introduced or expand their existing skills in this important area. No experience necessary! It's a great way for your child to have fun while learning some really useful skills, helping prepare them for the future. Participants will build a programmable LED colour clock that they can take home with them. Note: Different material will be covered in this Week 2 camp from Week 1 so it can optionally be taken in addition to Week 1 or taken on its own.

Musical Theatre - Jamie Caton & Tanya Phelps
If you have an interest or passion for the performing arts, this is the perfect opportunity to build your confidence and skills as a ‘triple threat’ – singing, dancing and acting, all while having fun! Learning from accredited professional: Jamie Caton, students will be choreographed through a production dance number from a major Broadway musical, to be showcased at the end of the camp. Students will practice improvisation, acting and voice techniques. They will also be exposed to the magic of music theatre through choice recordings and videos. Girls should wear dance or yoga attire, boys should wear shorts and t-shirts with light running shoes please. No experience is required!

We are excited to host The Vancouver Whitecaps soccer camps at Mulgrave this year! The Whitecaps camps are built on a European club model with one of the most unique and integrated soccer development structures in North America. With a variety of camps for all levels of players, Whitecaps camps are the next step in soccer development! All campers will receive a Whitecaps camp t-shirt and skills challenge scorecard.

Perfect Paragraph Writing - Jessica Ferguson
This writing and art program will have students creativity bursting onto the page in book form! Students will be making small books each with a different focus and theme. Using a number of different techniques, students will learn about how to structure their stories and also how to enrich their vocabulary. Every student will finish this camp loving the books that they have made and feeling proud of their achievement.

Jewelry Workshop - Devon Lefeaux
This workshop will introduce students to basic techniques for creating some of their favorite jewelry. Through hands-on experience, students will experiment with a diverse array of materials. They will be encouraged to personalize the pieces they create, allowing them to explore and express their creativity. All materials will be supplied.

This is a camp for students who love 'Squishies' and want to make some thing similar of their own. Students will create tiny food toys with variety of methods. Skills involving felting, sewing and clay will be utilized to make creations that are both adorable and delicious looking. No previous experience is required.

Understanding our Environment
This is an opportunity to explore the world beyond a screen! In this camp, students will get an opportunity to transform themselves into explorers and develop their observational skills in the local environment. Campers will learn by seeing, touching and feeling the beauty of nature during their short hikes. Learning about the ancient forest, students will hear stories from the First Nations Peoples and learn about the land, plants, and ecology. A synthesis of literature, science, art and crafts makes this camp fun for everyone! Students will venture out rain or shine, so wet weather gear and boots may be necessary.

Little Athletes - Jongsu Kim
This action packed sports camp introduces young athletes to various ball skills and team games. Using many traditional, modified sports such as basketball, soccer, floor hockey, and a multitude of small group fun challenges. The benefits lie in increased hand-eye coordination, control of actions, and in the confidence gained along the way. Basic game understanding and respect for rules, teammates and opponents are key features. Campers need to come dressed in runners and clothing suitable for active sports. Please ensure that campers have a water bottle and sunscreen. On wet days, we will play inside.

By delving into a different culture each day, this camp will introduce students to the different arts of the world. Students will focus on using different techniques and materials to correctly portray traditional arts and crafts of different cultures. Marine Biology - Jessi Jones & Rebecca Brunswick Werner
Did you know that we know more about outer space than we do about our oceans? Students can come get their feet wet in this outdoor marine biology course! They will explore our shorelines and learn more about the plants and creatures that live in our ocean. By lifting up a rock, students can discover an entirely new world right at our shore! Students should come dressed comfortably in shoes that may get wet (water shoes or rain boots will work!) with a water bottle and a positive attitude ready to learn and have fun.

Crack the Code - Michelle Mah
This camp will allow campers to unleash their inner code-breaker! Looking at a combination of codes such as Semaphore and Morse code, campers will learn historical information about each code, how it works, and then take part in fun activities using the code. This is a great camp for kids who love puzzles.

Being a Good Friend - Jessica Ferguson
This camp offers fun and engaging strategies to improve your social relationships. Students will learn how to develop give-and-take relationships, cope with rejection and disappointment and make lasting friends. This camp is all about confidence building strategies to help kids stand up for themselves as well as being thoughtful friends.

Camp Out Adventures - Jongsu Kim
Students will spend Monday and Tuesday afternoons learning about our local environment and camping skills before preparing for two nights of sleeping out under the stars (Wednesday & Thursday). Students will need their own sleeping bag and roll mat. This camp is led by an experienced teachers and camping is in tents within the Mulgrave School perimeter fencing. Dinner is included on Wednesday and Thursday evening, as well as breakfast on Thursday and Friday. More detailed information will be sent to parents nearer the time.

Young MovieMakers - Matt Kennedy - FULL
Young Moviemakers is an award-winning acting and video production studio for children and youth. Students participate in workshops and, with a team of experienced filmmakers, develop and produce short films to be screened in front of family and friends. Throughout the week, students are trained in video production, screenwriting, acting, film editing, visual storytelling and much more!

Learn to Sew & Make Fun Stuff! - Jamie Caton & Jessica Ferguson
Campers will learn the basics of sewing and beyond. Each student will take home a special hand-crafted item at the end of the week. It might be a rainbow hued patchwork pencil case or a cute stuffy. Sewing is a life skill that is fun and useful. Boys and girls are welcome.

Introduction to Ceramics - Michelle O'Byrne
Create pots, coasters, beads and beautiful art pieces in this fun skill building class! The first few days we will learn different techniques to work with clay and build our beautiful creations. Learn to roll slabs, build coils and make textures. In the second half of of this course we will glaze our artworks, creating some beautiful pieces for you to take home. A fun hands-on class. Please wear clothes that can get dirty!

Feed Yourself - Cooking for Kids!
This is a camp aimed at educating kids on how to lead a healthy lifestyle through critically analyzing what they eat. Campers will look at what it means to eat a balanced diet, how to prepare meals that hit all the food groups, and different techniques they can use in the kitchen. We will practice making several meals and the week will end in a fun cooking battle built around a unique "secret ingredient" in the style of Iron Chef!

Make Your Own Blog - Devon Lefeaux
Blogs are more popular than ever before as a tool for expressing one's individuality and passions. In this camp students will dive into a topic of interest and share what they find on their very own blog! Students will be introduced to the basic tools used when beginning a blog and learn how to use them in effective and exciting ways. This camp is a great way to express your unique creativity while learning the technological skills required to make a blog of your own! Please note, all students will be required to bring in their own ipads/laptops/chargers to the camp. Privacy and online safety are a major focus and will be discussed collectively on the first day of camp.

Watercolour Painting 'En Plein Air' - Jessica Ferguson
In this camp, children will have the chance to express themselves creatively through watercolour painting. Taking inspiration from the world around them, students will practice various watercolour techniques including blending colours, pen & ink, and transparency. Students will have a portfolio to share at the end of the week and all materials are provided.

Have you ever wanted to know how to create the strongest structures, grow crystals, mix solutions and make silly putty? Then this is the camp for you! Kids will get an education on proper safety in a laboratory as they become scientists working together to solve mysteries, complete challenges, and explore the world around them.
