We are excited to announce the launch of our annual G6-9 Global Citizenship Experiential Education programme (GEx) for June 2024. GEx is a required programme for all students in Grades 6-10 that takes place in the final week of school. Middle School families should have received an email overview this week and students will get programme introductions over the next two weeks with a special overview session on May 15 during advisory. This year GEx takes place from June 17-20, led by Mulgrave teachers and our educational partner Insight Global Education. Draft GEx itineraries are linked in the slidedeck launch presentation, shared here and posted on the GEx site for your reference. Please note there is no fee required this year for GEx, similar to Outdoor Education camps in the fall.

Recap of G6 Adventure Days - April 2024

Last week, the G6s participated in their second round of Adventure Days. The focus for these Adventure Days was an Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU), combining knowledge from their Science, Individuals and Societies, and Math classes to synthesize new learning. Their IDU statement of inquiry was, Investigating land use patterns may lead to sustainable choices and development plans for the future. With this interdisciplinary grounding, students analyzed historical and current land use practices from Indigenous and non-indigenous perspectives to create a presentation which communicated commitments to land use for the future. To further their development as environmental stewards, and help inspire the students to take action towards a more sustainable future, the G6s participated in the following activities:

  • Kairos Indigenous Blanket Exercise

  • Talaysay Land-based Indigenous tours of Stanley Park

  • Vancouver Landfill Tour

  • Recycling sorting at Mulgrave to reduce contamination

The G6s brought lots of energy and enthusiasm and were great collaborators as eco-citizens, so we finished the week off with a few games of bowling and a pizza party. A huge thank you to all of the G6s and the G6 team for all of their efforts in making this IDU an invaluable experience for them.
