Helaine Shepard

Helaine and her husband, Curt, have been active members of Mulgrave for fourteen years, with their youngest daughter graduating from Mulgrave in 2012. Helaine has a professional designation in Education from Simon Fraser University. In addition to classroom teaching, she was responsible for the administration of individual standardised achievement tests, assessing all levels from K-G7. Helaine served on numerous district committees and was an active member of the CEC: Canadian Council for Exceptional Children.

A passionate advocate for education, health, and the arts, Helaine has also been involved in a variety of not-for-profit organisations, community services, and programmes, including the Foundation Board for the BC Centre for Ability (formerly BC Neurological Centre) where she served as President, and the Foundation Board of Inspire Health (Integrated Cancer Care Centre), where she served as Board Director. Helaine’s work expands to include nearly two decades of service at Endeavour (benefiting the Arts, Sciences, and Health) where she also held a director position with the board. Helaine was involved for over a decade on the executive of Arts Umbrella (the Dance Company), a non-profit organisation committed to delivering the highest quality visual and performing arts education to children and youth.
