Snowstorm inspires generosity

The Wong-Fricks had been living in Hong Kong for 19 years. Their three daughters were born there, and the girls were happily studying at an international IB school. They had family, friends, and a strong professional network. Leaving it all behind was a difficult choice.

When they made the move to Vancouver last year, Mulgrave welcomed Caroline, her husband Tom, and their daughters with warmth and open arms. Caroline shares, “Mulgrave and its community played a large part in helping us settle. Not only have we seen our children embrace and thrive in Mulgrave’s learning environment, but the support and kindness of the staff, faculty, and parents have been truly incredible and helped anchor us in what was a challenging transition year.”

Caroline’s girls were asked what they love most about Mulgrave, and they excitedly answered, “I love the teachers! Learning is fun here...the people are so nice...they really care!” And to the Wong-Fricks, those words, said so enthusiastically, is what means the most. After experiencing major changes, their girls are happy.

When Caroline and Tom heard about the MPower campaign, there was never any doubt they would contribute to the future of Mulgrave.“We can’t wait to see our children and their peers experience and engage in the amazing spaces and classes that will be available once the West Wing Extension is complete,” says Caroline.

The Wong-Fricks have been impressed with our culture, finding staff and faculty to be down-to-earth, friendly, and sincere. “Mulgravians live and breathe the school values because they genuinely believe in and embrace those values,” emphasizes Caroline. “We feel proud to be part of this community and proud to give to MPower.”

Caroline shares a vivid memory of the snowstorms last year. Cars were stuck on the side of the road and in the ditch. Everyone from the Head of School, CFO, faculty, and parents worked together to help one another in the freezing rain and sleet. She was inspired and felt that the moment encapsulated the spirit of the school and the essence of our community. In her words, “When you care about something, you want to see it thrive. MPower is an important step in Mulgrave’s development, and for us and many others, giving to the campaign is our opportunity to come together as parents and help the school.”

We are deeply grateful to the Wong-Fricks, and all of our donors, for their outstanding generosity.

When something gives you so much, you instinctively want to give back.
