April 2017 Message from our Head of School

Dear Members of the Mulgrave Community,

I am delighted to let you know that the Mulgrave Board of Directors have given the green light to start the construction of the new West Wing extension this coming July.

We are excited to share with you details of the expansion.

The New West Wing Expansion

This addition, which is integral to the strategic educational plan that will take us through to 2020, will benefit students in all divisions of the school. The new West Wing will incorporate a new Upper School Art and Design Technology Centre, a new Middle School, an expanded Early Learning Centre and a Junior School outdoor Learning Centre. The associated renovations to the existing building will also allow the creation of more specialist spaces in the Junior School. These are important and exciting developments for our school.

Introducing the MPower Campaign

The cost of the new West Wing, the next stage in our $25-million, long-term (2022) campus and scholarships plan, is $12 million. Over the past year, we have been speaking to a small number of Mulgrave families about supporting this endeavour. As you know, while our fees pay for the operational costs of running the school, any major capital developments and funding for scholarships require additional fund raising. As of today, we are thrilled to announce that these families have collectively pledged $6 million towards the MPower campaign as we all work together to transform education at Mulgrave.

MPower is being led by one of our Board members, Charles Chang, along with a group of volunteer parents and Mulgrave's Advancement team led by Laura Walsh. Our goal is to raise the funds required to complete the West Wing by Autumn 2018. As with the Imagine Mulgrave campaign that built the Senior School, it is our hope that every family will be part of this effort to improve the education of our children both now and in the future.

In the next six months or so, one of the campaign team members will reach out to you to ask for your support. At Mulgrave, community participation has always been very important. I can tell you that all Board members along with the school's leadership team and many teachers and staff members have already contributed to the campaign.

Take a Closer Look

I hope that you'll enjoy the campaign website and videos. MPower is another step toward preparing well-rounded, innovative thinkers and leaders who can make a difference in the world. Together, we have an opportunity to transform both the education our children receive and their future university, career and life paths. I am excited to be on this journey with you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to be in touch. As always, thank you for your support of our school.

Warm regards,

John Wray
