An Introduction to Craig Davis

Craig Davis will join Mulgrave as Head of School in July 2023. He comes to the role with more than 30 years of experience in international, independent education and a deep connection to International Baccalaureate teaching and learning.

Craig completed his Post-Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of London and his Master's Degree at the University of British Columbia, where he was also an instructor in the English Department and First Nations Access Programme. Craig’s undergraduate study took place in Wales and the US, giving him a unique vantage point of post-secondary education in four different countries on both sides of the Atlantic.

As a teacher, Craig worked in both the public and private sectors in London before moving into international secondary education in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Craig has served the Mulgrave community once before as Principal of our Senior School and returns after leadership roles with highly-regarded, global institutions. He was Director of Education for Dulwich College International, where he was central to the creation of collaborative efforts across the school network and worked with the business functions to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the schools. Most recently, he has been Head of College and President at Pearson United World College, Victoria.

In tandem with these roles, Craig has shared his extensive knowledge and experience to further progress the mandate of the IB Organisation. He has been a teacher trainer, lead school evaluator, and leadership training consultant for the IB Educator Network. Craig has also participated on IB curriculum writing teams to design a new IB leadership course and revise the Theory of Knowledge curriculum focusing on Indigenous Knowledge Systems. Recent presentations at IB global conferences focused on the role of student agency in the evaluation of learning and how to develop intrinsic motivation in school wellbeing cultures.

Craig has a love of music and, until recently, was an avid runner and soccer player. Hiking, cycling, and skiing are his more common pursuits these days. He also has a passion for leading student expeditions (including with Mulgrave students)  to the Himalayan region of Ladakh and joining medics from all over the world involved in the Himalayan Health Project. These opportunities cultivated interests in high altitude trekking, Mahayana Buddhism, and the culture and people of a region affectionately known as ‘Little Tibet’.

Craig and his wife Sarah Lee, a Vancouverite, have three children: Isaac (12), Elizabeth (8), and Ciaran (8). They are all looking forward to moving to the North Shore and reconnecting with the Mulgrave community. Craig’s eldest daughter, Caitlin (18), lives in Sydney, Australia and is studying psychology at Macquarie University.
