Book Fair 2018 - Book Cover Contest Entries

2018 Book Fair & Design Contest Details

New in 2018

Welcome to Mulgrave Book Fair 2018!

TEAM DESIGN

This year, we introduce (or test-drive) a new contest category - Book Cover Team Design Contest. G4 to G6 students can enter the Book Cover Design Contest as a team of two.

  • Both team members must be in the same grade, but not necessarily in the same class.
  • Please write both names and classes on the entry form, and select both houses; otherwise, the entry will be treated as an individual entry instead of a team entry.
  • Only ONE contest entry per student; thus, one can only participate in individual OR team book cover design contest, NOT BOTH.

The non-JS judging panel is looking forward to receiving many team contest entries!

A number of new traditions started in the past two years will continue in 2018:

  • Crowd-voting: The contest entry with the most popular votes in each grade will win a free book from the Book Fair! For 2 days only, November 21st and 22nd, all JS students can vote for their favourite entry within their respective grades.
  • Book Fair Website: Mulgrave Book Fair continues to have a dedicated online space full of always-accessible information about the event - in fact, you are looking at it! Everyone can view the daily progress on contest entries and winners, daily trivia and family draw winners, as well as on numbers of donations made each day in each class ... all online 24/7 - in nearly real-time fashion.
  • Pre-K Masterpieces: In addition to the bookmark and book cover design contests, PK3 and PK4 students can also participate by submitting colourings of a bookmark design template of their choices. These masterpieces will also be shown in the Design Gallery on this page.
  • Pre-K Lucky Draws: One lucky student from each PK3 and PK4 class will win a book prize from the Book Fair.
  • Civvies Day: Both EY and JS Principals are participating in the event by giving out Civvies Day prizes!!
    • EY: reach the target of total 150 donated books, across PK3, PK4 & K
    • JS: the class with the most donated books, across G1 to G6
  • Win & Give: Students can donate book(s) to their classes ALL BY THEMSELVES without breaking open their piggy banks. All winners (from contests or draws) have the option of donating any number of the winning book(s) back to their classes, provided it is from the class wishlist. These book(s) will be specially labelled with a Golden Label, indicating it was a winning book that was donated back to the class by the winner. In 2017, three books bore this golden label.

Pre-K

Pre-K Masterpieces

Special Mulgrave "Enchanted Forest" Book Fair colouring bookmarks will be designed and made available to all PK3 & PK4 students 1 week prior to the Book Fair opening day. Students are encouraged to colour a bookmark with their favourite medium. All students who submit a completed bookmark during the week of the Fair will receive a small gift of appreciation from the Book Fair Committee. Each submitted bookmark will also be displayed online on the Book Fair WEB site.

Pre-K Lucky Draw

All PK3 & PK4 students will automatically be entered into the draw, where one lucky student from each class will be picked at random on the opening day of the Book Fair and be awarded a book of their choice from the Book Fair (no max value).*

EY Civvies Day Award

This year, if the total number of books donated to all Pre-K  & K classes reaches 150, all EY classes will be granted a Civvies day to celebrate this tremendous contribution, courtesy of the EY principal. A Civvies Day is a special day where students are allowed to wear their favourite clothes to school, rather than their school uniform. This will indeed be a very special celebration!

Book Fair Dashboard - Online @ bookfair.mulgrave.com

Each day, as books are donated to each class, the online Book Fair dashboard will be updated with the actual number of books donated. Families can check the daily progress of the donation.

What is the Team Contest?

A: This year, we introduce (or test-drive) a new contest category - Book Cover Team Design Contest. G4 to G6 students can enter the Book Cover Design Contest as a team of two.

  • Both team members must be in the same grade, but not necessarily in the same class.
  • Only ONE contest entry per student; thus, one can only participate in individual OR team book cover design contest, NOT BOTH.

Can I submit more than one design?

A: Absolutely! But, only your latest design will be used for final judging and for crowd voting. Your previous design submission(s) will be removed from the Contest Gallery immediately.

What happens to the submitted entries after book fair?

A: After a submitted design has appeared on the Contest Gallery, it will be carefully kept in the safe with the highest security available. By December 3rd, after the book fair, all the submitted masterpieces will be returned to the original artists' classes in mint condition.

I would like to donate to my child's class. Where can I find the wishlist?

A: The class ‘wishlist’ is now physically a bin of books the teachers select from the Book Fair. They are allocated along the far wall of the library as you come in, with a bin dedicated for each class, labelled with the class and the teachers’ photos.

How can I legally turn $1.00 into $1.60?

A: By spending and donating at the Mulgrave Book Fair. For each $1.00 spent at the Book Fair, Mulgrave receives $0.60 of credit with Scholastic Canada. That is a stretch of 60%! By putting books into the hands of students inside the classrooms through Mulgrave's Book Fair, more resources are being generated simultaneously for the school and for the library. This is the best deal in town!

How was the theme chosen this year?

A: Every year a theme is given by Scholastic Canada and we at Mulgrave usually follows the same theme to decorate and create our own posters and activities.

What forms of payment will Book Fair accept?

Book Fair takes all forms of payment: debit and credit cards, tap, ApplePay, cheques, as well as cash. Please make cheques payable to Mulgrave School. Note that if you pay by debit and credit card the vendor listed for the processed payment will be Scholastic Canada given we process those payments through their machines.

How do I fill out a donation card for books I choose to donate?

A: First of all, thank you for donating into the classrooms!

Simply fill in the following 3 pieces of information, then insert donation card in the book upon checking out. This way, we can prepare the book plate correctly at the end of each day.

              • Homeroom/Class
              • Book Title
              • Donated By

I have more questions. Who should I contact?

A: If you need more information about Book Fair beyond what is included here, please do not hesitate to contact this year's committee lead, Chia Chen, at chiahster@gmail.com.
