Singing: Accent on Show Songs (Grades 3-7)
This is a two-week camp, spanning the weeks of July 13th and July 20th
This mini-course is directed at students who like singing, especially theatrical songs. The accent will be on musical theatre repertoire, with other general song material mixed in, to create a varied program of study. Participants need not be experienced performers, but merely possess an interest in singing, including choral-style ensemble work. A variety of songs from several musicals will be studied, in unison and some harmony, according to the group’s experience and ability. Some complementary movement will be incorporated where appropriate, but the main focus will be group singing. To enhance the learning, some time will be devoted to viewing excerpts and/or related material from musicals. Related show dialogue may also be incorporated into rehearsals, to add further meaning and interest. Ability permitting, some time may be devoted to very small ensemble work such as duets or quartets, and we will look for small solo opportunities within songs. We hope to present a short informal culmination performance for family and friends, towards the end of the second week, during timetabled camp hours. Participants may have a water container with them during rehearsals. Other drinks and snacks should not be brought into rehearsals.
