September 14, 2018 Today was a very special day at Mulgrave. Our entire school population, and many parents and family members, gathered in the gym for the annual Welcome Back Assembly. Book-ending the speeches, student performances and introduction of the new Student Board, was the procession and recessional of our Grade 12 students and their Kindergarten buddies. The classes of 2019 and 2031 made their way in and out of the assembly to the accompaniment of bagpipes and it was very touching to remember where our graduating class once was, as well as where our Kindergarten students will be one day.
In her first full school assembly, Lindsey Berns, Deputy Head of School, spoke to the audience about the value of international mindedness, and encouraged us all to look at the world through a lens of similarity rather than difference. Click on the image above to view her remarks. The Mulgrave halls were a bit quieter than usual last week, with both Middle School and Senior School students off at camp. The energy more than rebounded on Friday afternoon when most students returned…a little tired and grubby, but with big smiles and lots of great stories.
test their resiliency and adaptability – key skills for the rest of their school year and beyond.
As beautifully described by Vanessa T (G9), who attended Kayaking Camp: "From glowing algae to shooting stars, camp was really a wonder. I absolutely loved the wildlife, including starfish, whales, seals, and crabs, which we were so lucky to see. It was a truthful experience that let me explore the nooks and crannies of the ocean, and led us to places far different than the year before." Over the summer, our Senior School students kept busy with a wide variety of enriching activities including jobs, internships, volunteer activities, travel, academic pursuits, competitions of many sorts, and more. We'll profile stories from this diverse crowd over the coming weeks. While on different coasts, Sayeed M (G12) and Augustin W (G11) lived somewhat in parallel over the summer. Both secured internships at medical research labs and spent their days learning, experimenting and contributing to important project work. They echoed each other saying that their experiences opened their eyes to the realities and complexities of the profession. This week marked the start of much-anticipated JS Co-Curriculars and MS LEAP activities. With a wide range of activities including things like Slow Food, Band, Yearbook, Leadership, Farsi and Cross Country Running on the roster, there's something for everyone.
These enrichment programmes offer Mulgrave students opportunities to personalise their learning and expand their breadth by trying something new or honing their skills. We're gearing up for our 25th Anniversary celebrations in December. If you have any photos of Mulgrave or Mulgravians over the years that you'd like to share, please upload them to this folder. Many thanks!
If you didn't receive an invitation to the big birthday bash on December 20th, please send us a note and we'd be glad to email one to you. Mulgrave is governed by a Board of Directors. This group of committed, diverse volunteers sets and monitors the school's long term strategy. For more detail on the role of the Board, please see this document.
