May 11th, 2018 What do you think about our school? Your thoughts and opinions on our strengths and opportunities for improvement are an instrumental part of our growth as a school. Please take a moment to share your voice by completing our Annual Community Survey (~10 mins), used by the Council of International Schools (CIS) to benchmark Mulgrave against some of the best schools in the world. Your answers are anonymous and the survey closes May 15th. Thank you! Hearts were full of warmth and love at our annual Grandparents/Special Someone Day. Excitement was in the air as our ELC and Junior School students showed their grandparents their classroom. Everyone then came together in the Great Hall for tea, coffee, goodies, and a reading of the book Your Hand in My Hand. James G, Adam D, and Barsam N, joined Ms. Mitchell for the storytelling and read with confidence to an enthusiastic audience. Thank you to all the grandparents and special people who attended! Lee Hardy, Middle School teacher extraordinaire, explains why he was proud to make a donation to the MPower campaign and is excited about the future Middle School Academic Centre.
Grade 6s are measured in vertical centimetres and beautiful flowing communications in art, dance, singing, essay writing, debating, and athletic performance. We have the privilege of welcoming the child and saying bon voyage to the young adult. They are independent, opinionated, and aware...and the Middle School is where it is at! The future is bright, and I thank all the many supporters of the campaign who are contributing to make Mulgrave everything we can be!"
You're invited to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of our student-athletes at our annual Athletics Banquet. Join your athlete Tuesday, May 29th at 5:45pm for dinner and an award ceremony. Wow, Gala was a truly wonderful community celebration! With close to 250 parents, faculty, and staff in attendance, and the weather bringing on its best, the night was unforgettable. Thank you to all of those who joined us and to our committed MVP for planning one of the best evenings of the year. Whether you attended or not, we're always aiming to improve Gala, and would love to hear your feedback. Also, our wishlist remains open, so if you want to contribute, please review the items still available and donate towards something meaningful to you.
HUGE THANKS TO OUR GALA SPONSORS! Last Friday, five students from the Senior School participated in the BC Secondary School Math Contest, hosted by Capilano University. The three students representing the Senior team were Reed Z, Andrew Z, and Jisang Y. The Junior team was made up of Grade 10 students Richard W and Charles X. All five students competed in the final round at Capilano and enjoyed a fun day of lectures and activities. After lunch, the results of the contest were revealed and Mulgrave's own Richard W and Charles X were awarded first and second place respectively for the Junior contest. Congratulations to the Mulgrave Math team and all the individuals involved! Reading Buddies On May 1st, as part of a student-led initiative, Middle School students came up to the Junior School to read stories to their 'little buddies'. The programme promotes a higher interest and engagement in reading and improves social and communication skills. All the students, big and small, genuinely enjoyed the experience!
#mulgravereads April was Mulgrave Reads month and each Middle School student presented a well-loved book of their choice to their English class. The books were voted on by students and the most popular were presented this week to a panel of teachers who decided on the top book in each grade. The winning books will be added to the Summer Reading list and the top presenters will win a prize. Click here for the list of 22 books recommended for Middle School students by Middle School students. Global Experiential Learning Expeditions (GEx) is a global engagement and service learning leadership programme for all students in the Middle School. In Grades 8-9, the programme focuses on a service learning 'week without walls' that takes students to places as close as Squamish and as far as Tanzania. Over the next few days, our students are leaving on their GEx expeditions, and from all of us at Mulgrave, we want to wish them safe and happy travels! If you want to follow our students on their GEx journeys, check out these social media hashtags. Communications Manager, Laura Darch, had the pleasure of sitting down with a lively group of students who participated in the Chamber Choir and Jazz Band trip to the Sun Peaks Con Brio Festival. They sang, performed, attended workshops, acquired a love of lip-syncing, and perhaps ate a little bit of junk food or maybe a lot. Watch the video! Thousands of Ismaili Muslims in Metro Vancouver celebrated the arrival of their spiritual leader, the Aga Khan, last weekend. He was in Canada to celebrate 60 years — his diamond jubilee — as Imam. He hosted around 20,000 people from across the province at BC Place over Saturday and Sunday, including many students from Mulgrave who have kindly shared reflections on the experience: "After going through this incredible experience, I can say with confidence that this visit gave me pride in my culture and religion. Seeing all these people from all around Canada who share the same values as me made me feel as if I am part of a very special Ismaili community..."
