KUDOS! JR. BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM WINS SILVER

Our Jr. Boys 'A' Basketball team played in the Tier 1 ISAA Championships January 19th-20th for the first time in school history. We were a little nervous going in, as the best basketball teams from independent schools across the province were participating.

In our first game, we faced off against a very athletic and physical team from Brentwood College. We gained a small lead in the opening minutes of the game and battled hard to... Read more

NEW PARTNERSHIP HELPS TEACHERS IN MOMBASA

Over November break, Senior School Vice Principal, Kathryn Clark, and Junior School Vice Principal, Shanaz Ramji-Motani, travelled to Mombasa, Kenya, as a part of Mulgrave's vision to serve communities around the world. Kathryn and Shanaz delivered teacher training, made classroom observations and had the opportunity to chat with students. Rewarding and enlightening, the experience was the beginning of what we hope is a long-term partnership.

SCIENCE FAIR SPOTLIGHT

Mulgrave's annual Grade 7 Science Fair provides students with the perfect opportunity to conduct an experiment based on their own interests. The project begins with curiosity and a question that needs answering, then takes students on a journey of self-directed discovery, making science relevant and really, really fun!

Hear from a few of the Grade 7s as they describe their project and what they enjoyed about the Fair. We were impressed with hard work of all participants, well done!

SERVICE & LEADERSHIP

SPIRIT WEEK 2018

This year, our student-driven G7-12 Service Action Council (SAC) leadership team is excited to announce that they are developing an Upper School Spirit Week campaign from March 12th to 16th, which seeks to engage the Mulgrave community in the heroic and selfless world of first responders – our local and global 'unsung heroes'. Click here for more details and to find out how you can support this campaign.

CIVVIES DAY: THURS. FEB. 1ST

Bring $2 to support the Vision Rescue Foundation (VFR) – an organisation created and led by Mulgrave students. VFR is a non-profit devoted to providing better optometry care of those in need. They've already assisted 300 children, but need help with a project aimed at providing 50 Rx spectacles to children in rural areas.

PEOPLE OF MULGRAVE: LARA M. SHREDS ON THE MOUNTAIN

How old was she when she started skiing? What's the coldest weather she's skied in? Favourite mountain and most essential gear? These are just a few of the questions we asked when we had the chance to do a quick Q&A with Grade 5 student, Lara M. Enjoy a good read with this fiercely determined, incredibly thoughtful young athlete.

SKYSCRAPER DESIGN CHALLENGE...WITH A TWIST

The Grade 5 students are learning about the Design Cycle and how they can use design to be more collaborative and creative problem-solvers. This week, they took on a design challenge as a fun way to apply what they have been learning in the classroom. With cue cards and some tape, they were asked to build a free-standing skyscraper. The students excitedly went to work. After 10 minutes, a twist was introduced – Mr. Lee brought out a wind machine. About 50% of the paper structures remained stable, while the others fell over. Not every group was successful, but it's safe to say they all enjoyed putting theory into practice.

ALUMNI FAMILY SPOTLIGHT: THE SHEPARDS

Mulgrave is the school it is today because of the dedication of our founding families' drive for excellence, coupled with the vision and passion that our current families possess. Our success can be attributed to the combined efforts of the entire Mulgrave community, past and present, and perhaps nobody believes this more than the Shepards - Curt, Helaine, Taylor, and Kate.

The Shepards came to Mulgrave in

2002, and found an instant family. While their two daughters, Taylor and Kate, got involved in a myriad of activities like field hockey, dance, science competitions, and theatre productions, Curt and Helaine dove head first into the community where they spent their time spearheading Galas, attending assemblies, and organising grad events, BBQs, fundraisers, and MVP events - just to name a few!

Today, six years after Kate's graduation from Mulgrave, the Shepards are still heavily involved in the community. While Helaine sits on the Board of Directors providing insight and leadership to guide the school toward future success, Kate remains as a Class Representative for the Class of 2012, Taylor sits on the Alumni Advisory Board working to connect alumni families with our Alumni Association, and Curt can still be found at nearly every big event and assembly the school hosts. The love the Shepards have for Mulgrave is truly touching, and we're lucky to have a family like theirs 'Sheparding' us into the future while still keeping us so connected to the past.
