MULGRAVE SELECTED TO JOIN GLOBAL LEARNING NETWORK

Recently, Mulgrave was one of four CIS (Council for International Schools) member schools selected  to attend an important meeting convened by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Boston this December. The meeting will bring together top international schools from across the globe with the theme: 'Rethinking Education for the 21st Century: Global Learning Network Convening of World-Leading Schools'.

Nelli Signs to Play Basketball at Western University

We want to congratulate Nelli and share her journey as a highly successful student-athlete.

"I started seriously playing basketball about a year and a half ago when I decided to try out for the U16 provincial team. I had very little high-level experience and was not expecting much from the tryout, but somehow I made the team. This introduced a whole new level of the game, playing with girls who had been involved in club basketball for years.

I tried out, but did not make the U17 provincial team and was pretty upset until a coach invited me to join his new club, BC United Basketball. This was an elite Blue Star programme which, a year ago, I never would have thought of joining. During the summer, we travelled to Indianapolis, Oregon, Chicago, Washington DC, and San Fransisco. In terms of commitment, I think I spend about 10-13 hours in the gym every week. It is a bittersweet feeling leaving the Lady Titans, but I am excited to see what this season has in store for us. Next year, I am looking forward to playing with and against some amazing athletes, as well as hopefully making some lifelong friends!"

NEWS FROM THE DIVISIONS
SNOWSTORM INSPIRES GENEROSITY

During a snowstorm last year, cars were stuck on the side of the road and some were in the ditch. Everyone from the Head of School, CFO, faculty, and parents worked together to help one another in the freezing rain and sleet. Caroline Wong was inspired and felt that the moment encapsulated the spirit of Mulgrave and the essence of our community.

CHANGEMAKERS GIVE HOPE TO GIRLS FLEEING ABUSE
Image

Over three days this week, our Changemakers (one of our service and leadership groups) spent time making bracelets and writing letters to support young girls in Tanzania who are fleeing abuse.

"Last year, we started this initiative because we wanted to support girls in Tanzania. We made bracelets and wrote notes to help the girls feel empowered, so that they knew there was hope to get to a safe place. We wanted them to know that they're risk-takers and very brave to find their way after abuse, even as young girls." - Ellyana, Grade 8 (above left)

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT | JAMIE (LEBRON) WOLFF

Described by Mr. Lee Hardy as, "Someone who always received joy from helping others", Jamie fell into a career path perfectly suited for her altruistic spirit - an occupational therapist. An adventurer, a career woman, and now a new mother to a beautiful baby girl, Jamie's combination of tenacity and compassion allows her to thrive in all aspects of her life and truly make a difference in the lives of others.

We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to steal a few minutes of this new mom's time and interview Jamie during the beginning months of her maternity leave. In this week's Alumni Spotlight, Jamie shares her experience of earning her master's degree, becoming an Occupational Therapist at Surrey Memorial Hospital, and explains what a day in the life of an OT looks like.
