TEACHER NOTES FROM MS.CHENG'S VISIT

"Being exposed to, and exploring, world theatre traditions lies at the very core of the IB Theatre program. Having Rosa Cheng at Mulgrave gave the DP students an opportunity to not only ask questions about Cantonese Opera as a theatre tradition, but also try out some of the skills Rosa taught during the workshop. Apart from being an educational and interesting workshop, the real value to the theatre students was that it feeds directly into one of the DP course components. We were very grateful to Rosa for coming and making the tradition that we learn about in a text book, come alive." -Ms. Markthaler, DP Theatre Teacher

"Grade 12 Visual Art students were fascinated by the transformation of Ms. Cheng using through colour and line. Students photographed the process and are starting to think how they might integrate this transformative practice into their studio work, with possible links into the Performing Arts. IB Art students are constantly observing and reacting to the world around them, it's fantastic to have access to these rich opportunities for integration and collaboration within Mulgrave." -Ms. Ianovskaia, DP Visual Art Teacher

"Music traditions from around the world is at the heart of DP Music studies. Ms. Cheng's visit was an opportunity for students to see this rich tradition in person. The focus of conversation for the students was the similarities and differences in musical aesthetic between Western Opera and Cantonese Opera traditions, both areas of study for our course." - Ms. By, DP Music Teacher
