Frequently Asked Questions

Families can submit applications at any time between early July and December 1, 2025 (PK4-Grade 11) or February 2, 2026(PK3). For example, from July 2, 2025 through to the deadline, applications are accepted for the 2026-27 school year. Late applications received after the stated deadlines are dependant of the spaces available in that cohort.

Students must be three years old in the calendar year that they start PK3, four years old for PK4, and five years old for Kindergarten.

Admission to Mulgrave is competitive and is based upon the strength of a family’s application, space availability, and the composition of the cohort. Interviews, assessments, school records, and teacher observations are used to select students. Mulgrave looks for students who will benefit from its enriched programmes and who will be able to contribute their own special talents, abilities, imagination, and curiosity to the school community.

We don't offer merit-based scholarships, but we do have needs-based financial assistance available for students applying to Grade 7 and up. Our most significant intake of young students is in our Preschool for three and four year olds, and in Kindergarten. 

In Grades 7 and 10, we also increase our cohort size and offer opportunities for motivated students who are looking for a school that can challenge them and offer a range of growth opportunities across the arts, athletics, outdoor education, and service and leadership.

When openings in enrolment occur in other grades, they become opportunities for new applicants. Students may only apply for two non-intake years.

We do not accept students into Grade 12 with the exception of IB students in very specific circumstances.

Yes, we do prioritise the siblings of currently enroled students and the children of our faculty and staff. All of these applicants still complete the same process and steps to ensure right-fit admission for the student.

No, it is definitely not necessary, nor recommended, as we simply want to get to know your family and child as the people you are; coaching and prep are not needed. It's very important for us to get to know families authentically throughout the process - as well as during a child's time at our school - so we require direct contact with families at all times. We do not work with any agents or consultants.

We do have students in wait pools for many of our grades. Students who have completed the admissions process and have been deemed qualified may be asked to join a wait pool due to space limitations. We do not rank our wait pool into an ordered list as we assess any open spaces and the current cohort to determine the best fit for admission.

Students who are on in our wait pool but who are not offered admission must re-apply if they would like to continue to pursue Mulgrave for the following year. Students may only apply for two non-intake years (intake years are PK3, PK4, Kindergarten, and Grades 7 and 10).

We generally only admit students for the start of our academic year in August with exceptions made only under very specific circumstances. We generally fill our cohorts for the start of the academic year, so our ability to consider mid-year entry is dependent on space.

We welcome students from around the world! If a student or parent is in Canada on a student visa (those with visitor visas cannot be enroled), we must apply the international student fee of $7000. Students with Canadian citizenship or permanent residency and parents with work visas pay the regular tuition fees.

Mulgrave does not have a quota on the number of international students we can accept, and a student's international status is not considered as a condition for admission. 

We do not offer a homestay or boarding programme and require students to live in the area with a parent or close relative so the student can benefit from a strong school-home partnership.

Yes, our buses cover the North Shore from Deep Cove to Horseshoe Bay. As well, we have a bus service through Vancouver’s downtown core. More information is available on our Transportation page. We also have a carpool app for our families to connect with one another.

Yes! Our programmes are fee-for-service and run until 4:30pm for PK3 and PK4 (spaces are limited due to licensing restrictions so we prioritise families who need the service due to their work schedules) and until 5:30 for Kindergarten to Grade 5. Before school care is also provided for Kindergarten to Grade 5 students on Tuesdays during our late start.

Students Grade 5 and above are not required to attend after school care. 

We are always delighted when parents, guardians, grandparents, and loved ones engage in our school community but there are no minimum requirements.

Volunteer opportunities abound in classrooms or other areas of the school as well as at special events throughout the school year. Many are organised by our Mulgrave Volunteer Parents (MVP).

We also strive to for a high level of participation in our annual campaign, known as Momentum. Our school has enjoyed incredible generosity from our community, which has enabled us to build and equip facilities and start new programmes. Momentum enables us to go beyond what we can provide through our tuition revenue and also supports our Financial Assistance programme. We value and respect that every family is different and has unique circumstances; every donation is valued, no matter the size. Contributions are so meaningful to us as they indicate families' support of our school's mission, vision, and values and commitment to our community.

Donations and gifts cannot be accepted during the admissions process.
