Admissions Timeline & Steps

• Click the Apply Now button found throughout the admissions section of our website.
• Create an account and submit your application. We highly recommend that you bookmark the link to your application so that you can easily return to your dashboard to upload documents, keep track of steps, and read notifications.  
• Complete the application with the following elements:
  • $350 application fee or $450 for applicants living outside of the Lower Mainland (the last step of the submission)
  • Applicant photo
  • Family photo
• We will process your application (within 1-5 business days) and then you will be prompted to move on to the next step: completing your checklist. 

Depending on your grade of application, the checklist on your application portal will have different requirements for supporting documents (such as report cards and an official document to confirm your child's birthdate and name). For applications to Grades 1-11, we require a Confidential Teacher Observation Form. This information is very helpful for the Admissions Committee but we understand that many teachers, particularly in the local public schools, are not able to complete it. Our preference is for your child's teacher to complete this form. If that is not possible, please reach out to us. 

This step can take place at different points in the process. You will be prompted via email to book an online interview at the correct stage of the application process for your grade. The meetings take place with a member of our admissions team and serve as an opportunity to get to know your family better.

• PK3, PK4, and K: The interview must take place at least one week before your child's group visit. We connect with all applicant families, including those who already have children at the school.
• Grades 1-11: The meeting takes place towards the end of the process.

All students with fully completed applications will be invited to attend a group visit day. Dates are listed in the table above and sessions last about 45 minutes. This is an opportunity for our teachers to get to know your child and for them to play and experience our classrooms.

Please note that these grades are not intake years; applicants may only apply for two years.

Grades 1 & 2: Applicants are all invited to a small group assessment with a member of our admissions team. They will participate in a variety of academic and non-academic activities that will allow us to learn more about their abilities and personalities.  Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a further group visit with our teachers.

Grade 3: Applicants are all invited to come to Mulgrave to sit an online assessment and participate in a personal interview. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a group visit with our teachers.

Grades 4-6: Applicants are all invited to come to Mulgrave to sit an online assessment and participate in a one-on-one interview. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a group visit with our teachers.

All applicants will be invited to select a time to sit our academic assessment (at Mulgrave or remote for those outside the Lower Mainland) and complete a writing exercise. Dates are listed in the table above. We do not require the SSAT.

All applicants will also have a 15-minute, remote interview with one of our admissions team members. You will be prompted to book a session via our calendars.

Following these steps, candidates are short-listed for the next steps:

Middle School Second Interview (applying to Grades 7-9) 
A small number of applicants will meet with our divisional principal or vice principals. 

Senior School Second Interview and Placement Tests (applying to Grades 10 & 11)
A small number of applicants will participate in a group discussion with other candidates, our divisional principal or vice principals. They will also sit a short math placement test.

When you submit your application, you can click on a checkbox that indicates that you would like to be considered for Upper School Financial Assistance. This programme endeavours to broaden Mulgrave's socio-economic diversity by providing personalised tuition plans for families who would otherwise face financial barriers to accessing our school. Financial assistance is only provided to families who demonstrate financial need through the application process.

Candidates follow the steps outlined above and once we determine that there is a strong fit based on the student interview and assessments, the family will be asked to submit financial documents to a third-party provider. This is required for us to determine the structure and level of tuition relief.
