Sam Tsuruda

Sam Tsuruda is a proud Nlaka’pamux woman and member of the Spuzzum First Nation, born
and raised on unceded Coast Salish territory in Vancouver. She is beyond grateful to have found
family at work, where she has spent nearly nine years in community-driven Indigenous research,
evaluation and mentorship with Reciprocal Consulting. Her experience ranges across 130+
collaborative projects, primarily informing Indigenous health and social policies at the
community, provincial and federal levels. Quite possibly ignited from her time at Mulgrave,
Sam’s passion for learning appears to be endless – she is two years into her doctorate at UBC,
studying the education system in times of reconciliation/race-based genocide in Canada,
healing, and Indigenous resurgence. Sam is currently based in Sweden with her wife Pella, who
graciously puts up with her moss obsessions and inability to finish puzzles in a timely manner.
