Service & Sustainability in Tropical Environments

This annual trip is held in conjunction with CATIE. CATIE is an international institution focusing on research and graduate education in the agricultural sciences and natural resources, and on environmental aspects related to both. Its mission is to contribute to rural poverty reduction in tropical America by promoting competitive and sustainable agriculture and natural resource management through higher education, research and technical cooperation. The focus is on sustainable development, leadership, and ecology, with attention to fair trade and globalisation.

The service portion of the trip qualifies for the Duke of Edinburgh Residence component (which must be completed at the Silver or Gold level). Participating students may be asked to fundraise towards the service project. Students will have daily opportunities to speak Spanish.
