Mulgrave offers a rich variety of athletic opportunities in an environment consistent with our Vision Statement. Students are encouraged to be both physically and mentally active, in order to develop a foundation for lifelong skills and values, including the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Our coaches support the students as they strive for individual excellence and to be the best that they can be. At the same time great emphasis is placed on sportsmanship, leadership, cooperative team play, and support and respect for others. The programme provides both challenges and fun for participants.
Mulgrave is a member of the Independent Schools Elementary Association (ISEA) together with 13 other schools in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island. This provides students on our Mulgrave Thunderbolts teams the opportunity to participate in exhibition games, tournaments, meets and playdays with ISEA schools at various venues. The Thunderbolts have traditionally enjoyed excellent support at these events from their parents. Following is the schedule:
Term 1
- Cross-country running (Gr. 3-6)
- Volleyball (Girls only) (Gr. 5-6)
- Soccer (Gr. 5-6)
Term 2
- Swimming (Gr. 3-6)
- Basketball (Gr. 5-6)
Term 3
- Track and field (Gr. 4-6)
- Rugby (Gr. 5-6)
With all Thunderbolts teams the emphasis is on participation rather than winning. There are no try-outs and all teams include students with a wide range of abilities. When possible Mulgrave enters multiple teams in ISEA events in order to maximize playing time for all.
