Spend two weeks on a dynamic, fast-paced, highly creative and intensive project that brings together music, theatre, dance, costumes, set construction, sound, lighting and more.

Under the guidance of a team of experienced and professional instructors led by artistic director Monique Creber, participants will mount a musical from the ground up, culminating in a spectacular live performance on Saturday, July 21st at 7 pm, in the Linda Hamer Theatre at Mulgrave.

This year, we are very pleased to announce that the show will be FAME JR., a school/family-friendly version of the classic pop-rock musical about a motley crew of students at a performing arts high school.

With great songs and lots of characters that kids and teens can relate to, FAME offers plenty of scope for participants of all ages, levels, and interests…from classical actors and ballerinas to tough, streetwise hip-hop stars and gritty rock singers, and everything in between.  Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged!

Musical Theatre Program

This program has a choice of two streams:

PERFORMANCE

Calling all singers, dancers and actors! This program offers a fun, supportive environment for participants (up to 18 yrs old) in which to hone their “triple-threat” performance skills.

We welcome a wide range of ages and levels of experience, from beginners to intermediate to professional teen and child performers; the program is carefully designed to give each participant the opportunity to learn and excel. Registrants are required to participate in an advance assessment to determine current ability levels and readiness for this type of intensive program (details and materials to prepare will be provided via e-mail after registration). Once assessed, participants are placed in one of four subgroups:

  • Advanced - experienced performers who possess strong skills in acting, singing and dance.
  • Intermediate - performers who have some previous theatre experience and basic to intermediate skills in acting, singing and dance.
  • Ensemble - participants with less theatre experience who are eager to develop skills in all three areas.
  • Junior Ensemble - younger performers (typically entering grades 1 and 2; must be at least 6 yrs old) with little or no previous experience. Please note the program structure is different for this younger category. These participants will sing and dance in the final production and they will work on performance aspects every day but their schedule will also include a variety of other activities such as arts and crafts, stories, games and creative play times.

STAGECRAFT & THEATRE TECH

Be a part of the team that makes the show happen! Gain hands on experience in design and construction of sets and props, sound system set-up and operation, lighting design, follow spot operation, stage management and much more. We welcome participants entering grades 6 to 12 who enjoy building things, working with technology and solving problems creatively. Previous theatre experience is an asset but not required.
