Dear Parents,

At this time of the year, much of our effort is devoted to planning for the next school year and beyond. The demand for places at the school continues to grow. Hence confirming enrolment for 2008/09 is our first priority. Thereafter confirming the teaching faculty takes centre stage once we know for certain how our numbers of students will be distributed across the grades. We again anticipate having a full school next year with 750 students enrolled.
Enrolment for 2008/09
Before the Spring Break, we sent out to all families with children currently enrolled at the school, a bulky Re-Enrolment Package for your consideration. I want to thank the many of you who have already responded and now need to ask that those of you who have not replied, to give this matter your immediate attention. We have indicated to new families who have children on our Waiting Lists that we will be able to make decisions about vacancies for next year by the middle of April. To achieve this, we must now know who is returning and the deadline for this notice is Friday 4th April. If you have any questions or are uncertain about your plans for next year, please contact Lesley Tetiker or myself this week at the School by phone and let’s discuss your circumstances. Thank you for your cooperation.
“The Class of 2008”
Although my focus is largely on the next school year, I must not miss this opportunity to now draw your attention to a very important group of young people at the school who will this week be starting their last term at Mulgrave; I am speaking of course about our Grade 12 students, “The Class of 2008.” This is both an exciting and challenging time for them as they prepare for their final IB examinations in May and we then look forward to their end of year celebrations and opportunities for recognition, including their Convocation on 6th June. I am delighted to report that the President of the International Baccalaureate Council, Monique Seefried, has accepted our invitation to be the Keynote Speaker at Convocation. We are indeed privileged that she has agreed to attend the graduation ceremony for our first class of IB Diploma students.
The Calendar for 2010
Attached you will find the Mulgrave School Calendar for 2009/2010. This is a unique year given that the school will be closed over the period of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games in February 2010. This inevitably has forced us to modify our holiday schedules in order to accommodate these special circumstances. Please take careful note of the dates as to when the school is in operation and how this has impacted on the timing of vacations. It is going to be an exciting year and already we have an enthusiastic group of students preparing to be volunteers in support of the Games.

Vision and Mission
Finally I would like to remind you of the Mulgrave Vision Statement which reads as follows:
Mulgrave’s Vision
By inspiring excellence in education and life, Mulgrave strives to equip life-long learners to thrive in a culturally diverse and interdependent world and to embrace, with passion and confidence, their responsibility always to do their best, to support others and to make a difference by serving their communities, both locally and in the world at large.
As we plan for the future and look ahead, it is always helpful to focus on the fundamentals of our institution, to remember both our Vision and Mission and truly work with our young people to “Inspire Excellence in Education and Life.”
Sincerely,

Tony Macoun
