ADVANCEMENT: Ways To Give
Cash
Cash gifts are the most common form of support. Cheques should be made payable to Mulgrave School and directed to the Advancement Office. Donations by credit card Visa or MasterCard are also routinely received, and can be transacted in person, in writing, or by phone.
Pledges
Mulgrave welcomes pledges a formal statement of a donors intention to make a contribution at a later date, or on an installment basis over a defined period. Larger gifts are often transacted this way. Please contact the Advancement Office if you would like to make this arrangement.
Securities
The benefit to donors of a gift of appreciated securities was significantly enhanced by the May 2006 Federal Budget. Under the new taxation rules, donors are exempt from capital gains when they donate eligible securities publicly-traded shares, bonds, mutual fund units, and employee stock options to a registered charity such as Mulgrave School. The transfer of shares is simple and straightforward the value of the gift is the value of the shares on the date of delivery.

Gifts of Tangible Property
Giving a gift of tangible personal property typically referred to as a gift-in-kind is another way of supporting the school in a meaningful way. A gift-in-kind may be an item that the school needs and therefore will retain and use musical instruments, or new technological equipment, for example or an item the school may opt to sell, the benefit then derived in the form of proceeds from the sale. In order for a charitable tax receipt to be offered, the fair market value of the item must be established, and this may require independent appraisal by a qualified expert.
