CURRICULUM: Why IB?
Why have we adopted the International Baccalaureate programme at Mulgrave? The answer is simple: it is undoubtedly the best educational programme available today to help prepare our students to face the challenges of the 21st century. The pace at which our world is evolving is not easily comprehended; one has only to view the latest edition of Karl Fisch’s powerful video, “Shift Happens” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egnjm0B6DFI.
It is through an IB education that we can equip our students to become true global citizens. Cultural, scientific and technological literacy are embedded in a continuous curriculum, from Kindergarten to Grade 12. All of the programmes (PYP, MYP and DP) purposefully help students develop the skills and attitudes required for them to be contributing and responsible members of their local and global communities. The fundamental belief of the IB is that we can create a better world through education.
The IB Mission statement reads:
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
IB World Schools have a reputation for high standards for academic rigour and for pedagogical leadership in education environments. The IB standards and principles are built around best teaching and learning practices which translate into the delivery of an enriching international educational programme for our students.
