WHAT'S IN A NAME?

By: John Wray

Ever since Mulgrave was chosen as the name for our school back in 1993, the year of our founding, we have proudly celebrated the quality of our Mulgrave education and the achievements of generations of Mulgravian students and families.

Named after the Earl of Mulgrave who at the time also held the title of Marquess of Normanby, our school sits prominently on the side of Cypress Mountain on a large tract of land known as the British Pacific Properties in which the Marquess of Normanby is a major shareholder.

As it has developed, Mulgrave School has become well-known within British Columbia and across Canada as an outstanding Independent School with a reputation as an excellent International Baccalaureate (IB)

Continuum School and as a school that is continually pushing the boundaries of excellence and innovation.

Over the holidays, many of our alumni returned home to Vancouver to see their families, reconnect with friends, and attend Mulgrave's annual Alumni Basketball Game & Winter Social. With over 100 alumni in attendance, this year's Winter Social was a magical evening filled with basketball, photo boothing, and reminiscing.

DO YOU KNOW WHICH PEPPER HAS MORE VITAMINS OR WHAT WHITENING PRODUCT WORKS BEST? LEARN THESE AND MANY OTHER 'COOL' THINGS AT MULGRAVE'S SCIENCE FAIR.

Next Thursday, January 19th, our Grade 7 students will spend the day presenting their most recent science findings as part of Mulgrave's annual Science Fair.

As judges tour each of the presentations, students will delve into their hypothesis, methodology, analysis, and share their conclusions. The day marks the culmination of weeks of work in which our new Middle Schoolers were exposed to new scientific research approaches and data analysis strategies. We asked what the key to success was and atop all the lists were time management. You can listen to one of our interviews in this week's People of Mulgrave feature (see below), where we sat down to chat with Makkah-Ali Damji about her project and the Science Fair experience.

SPEEDCUBING AT MULGRAVE

Over the break, a group of dedicated Mulgrave students, all speedcubing enthusiasts, met at the Vancouver Cube Competition held at the Convention Centre. The competition offered them a great chance to put to the test the skills they developed through months of hard work and practice.

Curious about speedcubing? We were too. So, we reached out to Kai K. (G8), the eldest of the group, to learn more. Read our Q&A here.
