CALENDAR SURVEY LETTER FROM MR. WRAY

Image

At the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, following stakeholder consultation, we introduced a modified school year calendar. The purpose of the calendar modifications was to improve student learning. At the time, we committed to evaluating the new calendar after one year of operation,

and as part of this exercise, we have consulted parents, students and teachers via an online survey. The summary results are shown below. Parent survey results:

  • Overall 62% like the new calendar; 35% overall do not like the new calendar (158 parents/25% of our families completed the survey after extending the deadline and re-advertising the survey)
  • Teachers survey results: Overall 88% like the new calendar; 7% overall do not like the new calendar (93 teachers completed the survey
  • Student survey results: Overall 70% like the new calendar; 20% overall do not like the new calendar (494 students completed the survey)

PEOPLE OF MULGRAVE - SHAIV, KIERAN & KENDA

Last year Shaiv, Kieran and Kenda, along with Charlotte, Jane and Stephanie participated in the popular Young Moviemakers co-curricular taught by Mr. Kennedy. Their film, Butch the Bully, has been selected to be screened at the Gold Coast International Film Festival in New York. In this week's People of Mulgrave, Mr. Kennedy sat down with the students to chat about filmmaking.

ALUMNI SIBBLINGS CONGRATULATE G12s ON COMPLETING THEIR EXTENDED ESSAYS

Our Grade 12s handed in their Extended Essays this past week, ticking off a huge box on the IB checklist. On Tuesday, they had a chance to celebrate this achievement at their EE Tea. Few can understand the huge sense of accomplishment our Grads feel when handing over their completed Extended Essays - but our alumni siblings do. Some of them wanted to send their congratulations to the Class of 2017 and explain how the Extended Essay has benefitted them beyond Mulgrave at university. Congrats, Class of 2017!

BON VOYAGE TO OUR G6s

BEYOND PLEASE AND THANK YOU - ETIQUETTE EXPERT SHARES GREAT TIPS ABOUT BIRTHDAY PARTY ETIQUETTE AND MORE

Should I stay at the birthday party or drop my child off? Do I bring a gift if an invite says 'No Gifts Please'? What is the difference between manners and etiquette? These are just a few of the questions we asked Sunita Padda during her visit to Mulgrave this week. Mrs. Padda is the founder of TableSmarts, a business that provides etiquette training for children and adults. In our first Community Spotlight and contributed blog post, we learn about the importance of etiquette and how conventions vary from culture to culture. Watch a recorded  video with Mrs. Padda and/or read her blog post to learn more about what she shared.

TEST OF MULGRAVE'S EMERGENCY
TEXT SYSTEM

The school website is always the
default first source of information for parents regarding the school. In addition to the website, Mulgrave uses a mass text messaging system in the event of school closures, delayed starts due to weather and other emergencies. This system will be tested at roughly 11:30am 10/26.

The text message is sent to the 'Parent 1' cell phone as listed in the Parent Portal directory. We send the message to only 'Parent1' due to constraints with the size of our mass distribution list. If there is a compelling reason for a second cell phone to be added, such as shared custody or frequent trips, then please e-mail David Lo.

Please check that you receive a text from Mulgrave. If you are 'Parent 1' and do not receive the text message, click here to learn the steps that should be followed.

IT WAS A BALL! THANKS FOR COMING TO BOWLING FOR DADS

Image

Having broken all attendance records to date, this year's Bowling for Dads delivered on its promise to show dads, uncles, grandpas (and their accompanying children), an amazing time. Attendees' support of the event made it 'all fun and games'.

A huge thank you to the nearly 200 Mulgrave community members on behalf of Navida Suleman and Nikki Tilley, MVP Special Events Co-Chairs. Navida and Nikki saved the biggest thank you for the Mulgrave staff and volunteers without whom the event would not have been possible.
