| One of the key aspects of Independent School life around the world is the role of advancement and philanthropy.
Mulgrave is no different. Our annual fee income (including the small BC government grant) covers our basic operating costs on a year to year basis. Operating costs include salaries, utilities and books, and equipment. Any special projects or initiatives, and especially any significant facilities improvement, has to come from fundraising from our community. This aspect of school life is what is called advancement - literally, advancing the school to provide an even better education for our children.

| WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! - SCHOOL CALENDAR SURVEY OPENS | |

| Dear Parents,
The goal of the calendar changes that took place last year was to further improve our students' learning across Pre-K to 12 by smoothing out the intensity of, and slightly extending, the school year. The students continued to have the same number of instructional days (175/6) as previously, but just spread out over a slightly longer period.

| Over the past twelve months, the community has been collaborating to put together a 5-year strategic plan for the school.
This October, Mr. Wray, will lead several Strategic Plan discussion sessions. These sessions will involve a presentation of the newly published plan, and they will also offer an opportunity for you to ask questions and share thoughts.
There are several dates and times to choose from, as well as sessions in both English and Mandarin.

| As the recently graduated Class of 2016 settle into unfamiliar territory this fall, they know better than anyone the value of community and how intimidating it can be to join a new one. Having moved on from the nest but never severing ties with their Mulgrave family, a few of them would like to share a warm welcome to the new members of Mulgrave this year and show them what an incredible bond this community has. | |

| VANCOUVER CANTONESE OPERA STAR - ROSA CHENG - COMES TO MULGRAVE | |

| This past Tuesday, students from all divisions had the opportunity to visit Ms. Cheng putting on her makeup in the Mulgrave Library & Learning Centre (LLC). Students from Theatre, Music, Visual Art, Mandarin, English, and Junior School homerooms were all in awe as they saw pieces of her hours-long transformation. | TITANS SOCCER KICKS OFF AND VOLLEYBALL IS IN FULL SWING
The G7 Boys Soccer team kicked off practices this week and have been preparing for their first game next Wednesday at 3:30pm. Our young Titans will be away facing off against St. George's. This year the team is playing the top GVISSAA schools in Vancouver as a result of moving to Division A.
On Thursday, our G6 Boys soccer team will be playing their first game of the season at Stratford Hall. The Titans action continues into Friday and Saturday when our G7 Girls and Sr. Girls A & B volleyball teams will be playing at St. John's School's annual tournament.
