MULGRAVE HOSTS CITIZENSHIP CEREMONY AS OUR G3s EXPLORE OUR CANADIAN ROOTS

This week, Mulgrave Grade 3s watched as 48 people from over 23 different places of origin took an oath to fulfil the duties of a Canadian citizen. The ceremony proved to be extra special as we welcomed two Mulgrave families as new Canadian citizens.

The ceremony marked the culmination of the G3s latest Unit of Inquiry in which they explored those duties in more detail. From caring for our neighbour, to valuing diversity, and working together for the greater good, we learned from the G3 students (who helped officiate the ceremony) that being Canadian in many ways means 'to be ready to make a difference by helping and respecting others'. We asked the G3s to share their congratulations to those new citizens and share insights into what it means to be a Canadian. This is what they had to say.

MULGRAVE'S DESIGN THINKING COURSE WILL GET NEW HOME

In today's complex world, having a solutions-based mindset is an essential skill. This means having a mind that is trained to identify issues or opportunities and come up with solutions that work. This solutions-based mentality is what drives the MYP Design Thinking Programme, a core subject taught from G6 to G9 where math, science, art, and design come together. The Design Thinking class, taught in a converted classroom, is an area of focus for the MPower campaign. The new West Wing will be home to a purpose-built Design classroom with double the space; thus, giving students a chance to be audacious in their projects and tackle large, more complex problems. PEOPLE OF MULGRAVE - MEET AVERY A.

For this episode of People of Mulgrave, we sat down with Avery A. (G6) after learning of his success at the BC Diving Provincials in Victoria, where his performance was described as 'brilliant!'.  Avery, among the youngest in his group, shone. As he shares, he harnessed his energy to focus. The result was a strong performance and a zen-like approach to his diving, a sport that makes him very happy. Meet Avery here.

RECONNECTING WITH OUR CANADIAN AND ALUMNI ROOTS

Image

This was a very special week for Mulgrave and for our alumni. For the first time, Mulgrave hosted a Canadian Citizenship Ceremony for a beautifully diverse group of individuals, and our very own Mulgrave Alumni, Sonia Rosenfeld from the Class of 2007, was the Clerk of the ceremony.

After graduation, Sonia received her BA from McGill University, and then pursued a Master of Arts in International Studies from SFU.

She is now a Citizenship Officer at Citizenship and Immigration Canada. It was such a treat to have her back at Mulgrave reconnecting us to our Canadian and alumni roots!
