Mulgrave is an independent, non-denominational co-educational school which is committed to providing an excellent academic programme. We are now inviting applications for a permanent full time position of Learning Support Teacher.

Learning Support teachers assist identified students with additional learning need to reach their academic potential in collaboration with classroom teachers. These teachers are responsible for the implementation and monitoring of student IEPs (Individual Education Plans) and actively facilitate the creation and implementation of a collaborative support plan for students who require differentiated learning. They are supervised by the Junior School leadership team. The Head Learning Support Teacher leads, coordinates and contributes to, the work of the small JS learning support team including one specialist teacher and learning support associates.


Candidates will be expected to:

  • Have Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Have all of the requirements and certifications to teach in British Columbia
  • Hold an age appropriate First Aid Certificate
  • Plan with classroom teachers on a regular basis. Offer suggestions to classroom teachers as to how curriculum can be differentiated to meet the needs of the student(s) being supported
  • Organise support for student(s) to be completed during language exemptions
  • Implement a variety of co-teaching strategies in coordination with classroom teachers when it is beneficial to the academic or social learning of the student being supported. This may include (but will not be limited to):
  • 1:1 support, paired activities
  • Small group support
  • Monitoring learning center
  • Teaching half the class
  • Teaching the whole class (this may allow for the classroom teacher to teach or assess the student being supported)
  • Endorse the school’s mission and vision statement
